CAR ENGINE – How it Works
- When you turn the key in the ignition, the car battery powers up and transmits electricity to the Starter Motor.
- The motor moves the Crank Shaft mechanism that pushes open the Inlet Stem Valve.
- As the Inlet Stem Valve opens, the Piston in the Cylinder moves down to let in air and a small amount of fuel
- The Piston moves up again to compress the fuel and air mixture. As the Piston reaches the top of the Cylinder, the Spark Plug ignites the fuel mixture. Expansion of the gases produced pushes the Piston down and transmits power to the Crank Shaft.
- When the Piston reaches the bottom of the Cylinder, the Exhaust Stem Valve opens to let out the gases into the tailpipe. One engine cycle is complete.
- The Engine has various channels / cavities in which different kind of Fluids in Liquid / Gas form flows.
- The Liquids are Fuels (i.e. either Petrol, Gasoline, Diesel, CNG, LPG etc.), Oils, Water, and Coolants etc.
- The Gases can be Air, Vaporised Fuels and Exhaust Gases of Various types.
- The Fluids are present at normal Temperature to very high Temperature and at normal Pressure to very high Pressures
- Leakage of these Fluids can cause severe malfunction and damage to the Engine.
- Hence roll of a Good Gasket becomes very very crucial in an Engine as it is used mainly to ensure No Leakage occur.
- This also increase the importance of Gasket Material used to manufacture the Gaskets.
- All the moving Parts are dipped in Oil to keep the temperature caused by the friction of moving parts in control. Oil Seals, the Part that First EDGE makes, ensures that Oil does not leak from any of the closures of all the Engine Parts.
- If Oil leaks, friction of moving parts will heat the Engine to beyond its tolerable limit and the Engine will cease.
- Selection and construction of a Good Oil Seal is therefore, very important. Oil Seal is an important critical component and its right construction equally important as Oil Seal encounters aggressive oils; abrasive dirt particles; high pressure volatility; extreme temperature exposure and high rotational shaft velocity and still has to provide an effective Seal. Not only that, on opening the Engine, it should also release out without damaging any other mating component.
